In 2006, the ICC has chosen Pakistan as the host of the 2008 ICC Champions Trophy. On August 24, 2008, it was announced that the 2008 ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan has been postponed to October 2009, when several countries are reluctant to visit Pakistan for security reasons. Because of the tight international calendar around that date, and concerns about the security situation had changed at that time there was widespread skepticism about whether this would occur in 2009.
On March 16, 2009, made an announcement that the ICC has recommended that the 2009 ICC Champions Trophy moved from Pakistan to South Africa. On April 2, 2009, Cricket South Africa has confirmed it will host the 2009 ICC Champions Trophy from 24 September to October 5.
The Council accepted the recommendations of the ICC as the Liberty Life Wanderers (Johannesburg) and Supersport Park (Centurion) exhibition venues. The details of SA will host the Champions Trophy were wiped out during a meeting of the Chief Executive of the CSA and ICC Gerald Majola General Manager – Commercial, Campbell Jamieson.
